Some Chandelier Earrings...

I was looking through my old Flickr photos recently and realised that I haven't made any of these styles for quite a while. So here are the lastest incarnations ~ Fritillaria and Iris! The Fritillaria ones are made with citrine, scapolite and amethyst, and the Iris pair are tanzanite, sky blue topaz and amethyst. Both styles are quite lightweight, being mostly made up of gemstones and chain. I have kept my usual touches of wire-wrapping to a minimum on these, so as not to overshadow the lovely sparkling stones. More of these to follow in the coming weeks :)

It's been a while since I posted anything new ~ I have been busy designing, but not actually doing much making! I do have a few new things lined up for this week though. First off is the Alchemy necklace! It's really a fancier version of this one which was very popular this Spring. I've carried on the linked beads all the way around instead of using chain and have added some clustered rondelles to the pendant. Plus, I've used a mix of dark oxidised silver with touches of bright gold and some absolutely gorgeous gemstones (London blue quartz, pink amethyst, rutilated quartz, pyrite and tanzanite).

I don't often make matching sets, but I had this lovely trio of cherry red quartz left from a layout of five and thought I'd use them all together. The quartz has been paired with faceted rondelles of deep plum pink rhodolite garnet and wrapped in coils of silver wire. The silver has been oxidised to a deep charcoal grey patina, making those lovely red shades really stand out. These will be available in my Etsy shop later today.

I received a long awaited gemstone order today and just had to make something with these show-stopping stones as soon as I set eyes on them! They are London blue hydro quartz (a lab created stone) in a beautiful, dazzling pan cut, which I've wrapped with gold wire (I can make these in silver too). More chandelier earrings! This time I have used a combination of rich golden honey quartz rondelles, accompanied by amethyst briolettes (polished deep purple African amethyst and paler faceted drops of Brazilian amethyst). The briolettes are topped with bountiful clusters of bronze Keishi pearls and Tundura sapphires in shades of smoky sage green and lavender.

Perhaps I have given up on the Summer (according to a newspaper article I read the other day, it's already been and gone) ~ I don't know, but my thoughts are definitely turning towards Autumn, my favourite time of the year. Here's a new pair of earrings in my Signature style, inspired by the rustling copper beech trees around the local church yard. They're made with framed freshwater pearls and tiered cascades of natural brown zircon, garnet and Tundura sapphires. They are quite petite and lightweight, so very easy to wear :)

A collection of very simple necklaces featuring tiny hammered vermeil hearts on delicate gold-filled chains. Accompanying each heart is a little gemstone charm, which could be a birthstone or a good luck stone, or whatever you want really ~ I have to admit, I did keep the first one of these that I made and have worn it every day this week! The ones I've done so far are herkimer diamond, peridot and turquoise, but I'll have some more to list soon, as well as some silver ones. Special requests welcome :)

And finally, the Honeysuckle necklace ~ my favourite! I love this design and have been making it for several years (earring versions too!) This one is made with a pink Peruvian opal as the central stone, and it's fringed with Oregon sunstone, kunzite and a rose quartz briolette, with clustered rondelles of pink amethyst and rhsodochrosite to fill out the spaces. Yesterday I managed to get a few necklaces made! I still can't figure out how to add more than one photo to a post though, so I'll have to add them separately. First up is the Cassia necklace which is made with a little row of citrine rondelles, with briolettes of rhodolite garnet and golden rutilated quartz hanging in tiers in between. I love this style as it's not too fussy, but still has a nice amount of detail and can be made in all sorts of colour options.

The first of a new collection of simple everyday necklaces that I'm working on. They all feature a single gemstone briolette with a smaller accent stone, attached with gold wire to an oxidised silver chain. Each one will be pretty much unique, as the stones I use are all natural and hand-cut so I rarely get more than one identical stone (and if I do, I use them for earrings!)

Named after the Roman goddess of Springtime, this delicate necklace features a set of wire-wrapped charms (pink and green amethyst and Oregon sunstone) which hang from a row of sparkling aquamarines.

I haven't made any of these in a while, so I thought I'd really go a bit wild with the colours for this pair! They are made with rose quartz, rhodochrosite, garnet, apatite, chrysprase and chrome diopside. The greens and teals are a stark contrast from the pink and rose colours, and make a refreshing change from the subdued whites and greys that are all around at the moment.

Some earrings I made today with some new Swarovski baroque crystals I just got. I don't use crystal as much as I used to, but I always find myself drawn towards the brilliant, sparkling colours (in fact, I think they are way prettier than a lot of the glass masquerading as coloured "topaz" and stuff that's all over the place these days!!) This shade is called Olivine which is a lovely leafy green, and I've paired it with some shimmering cool grey labradorite beads. The photo isn't great as it's been really dark and stormy all day, so I'll need to re-shoot before I can list them. Oh, and I'm hoping to have my new wesbite up and running by the end of tomorrow. Well, that's what I've been promised anyway :)

I just can't seem to stop making these at the moment! I think what I like about them is that they are all just about the gemstones and colours, with no other distracting bits vying for attention. This one is done in a combination of lemon and moody greys and blues. The gemstones I've used are lemon quartz, labradorite, aquamarine, iolite and Turkish chalcedony.

In a similar style to my chandelier necklaces, this one is made with sparkling crystal quartz, surrounded by thick clusters of Keishi and seed pearls, and rainbow moonstone rondelles. My latest chandelier style necklace (I just love making these!) This one is made with a faceted nugget of icy aquamarine in the centre with a large rutilated quartz briolette suspended below. Drops of rainbow moonstone sit at either side and clustered between are little white Keishi pearls, tiny aquamarine briolettes and rutilated quartz rondelles on a mix of blackened silver and bright gold pins.

Yesterday, I was going through my collection of Bali and Thai silver and came up with these petite drop earrings which focus mainly on texture rather than colour. Very versatile and easy to wear with just about anything ~ perfect everyday earrings.

A fairly simple design comprising of a thick fringe of blackened silver chains set on a gold-filled cable chain. Some gorgeous little hot pink ruby briolettes give a shot of intense colour. One of my older Signature designs that I haven't made in a while ~ an Autumn inspired chandelier necklace in the colours of the moorland bracken. A step faceted oval prasiolite is fringed with an array of golden yellow, leaf green and earthy brown gems (citrine, prehnite and whiskey quartz briolettes and rondelles of peridot, chrome diopside, labradorite, citrine and andalusite).

A few new necklaces

I was saving these for the autumn, but they're so simple and neutral that I think they'd be perfect all year round! The top one (Oyster) is made with the most beautiful and deeply lustrous Keishi pearls which are a delicate peach colour, hand knotted on thick coffee coloured silk and attached to an oxidised silver chain. Next is Paloma, which features a row of rainbow moonstone spiral cut briolettes with a central Keishi pearl, knotted on bisque silk, and lastly Tulle ~ icy kunzite nuggets on a very delicate chain.

I will be listing these on Etsy today, but they can also be purchased directly from me. For the time being, I won't be putting any new things on my website as I'll be changing my eCommerce provider in the next couple of weeks.

Something I always do when planning ahead for the next season's designs is get a copy of the Pantone Fashion Colour Report and translate it into gemstones. I think this year's Autumn/Winter one is particularly inspirational! I'm already working on some brand new designs, which are going in a slightly different direction to my recent work, but as it's still the height of summer, I'll keep them under wraps for a little while :)

I am loving the layered look at the moment, so I'm making some very simple necklaces that can be easily matched with more elaborate pieces. This little selection is made with freshwater pearls and oxidised sterling silver, but can be made in bright silver or gold too. I'm planning on making some more like the smoky quartz one tomorrow, but with different gemstone briolettes, and also some that are just gemstones in lovely colours.

Here's another one of my front-fastening necklaces ~ a similar style to the Starling one, but the focal clasp is more leaf than spiral shaped. The gemstones used here are lab created pink sapphire, rhodolite garnet, hot pink ruby, champagne citrine, golden rutilated quartz and pink tourmaline. I've used a mix of deeply oxidised sterling silver and 14 carat gold filled metals, making it very versatile and easy to match up with other pieces.

This gem-packed necklace is based on some of my old earring designs (there are some examples in my Flickr collections from 06 and 07 if anyone is that interested!) I also used to make these spiral clasps for bracelets when I first began making jewellery, but this is the first time I've made a feature of one in a necklace and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. The gems I've used here are black spinel, moss aquamarine and clear aquamarine, London blue topaz and sky blue topaz with a mix of vermeil and gold-filled metals. I have some matching earrings planned, which I'll try and make up over the weekend.

This design is based on my Odyssey necklace from last summer, only I've added some extra elements to make it more of a statement necklace! I've used a mix of dark oxidised silver and gold-filled metals, and added more charms which are placed on a large linked navette chain joined to a finer belcher chain with some moonstone rondelles. The charms are a large polished amazonite briolette, a piece of frosty blue local sea glass, a white Keishi pearl, clusters of small freshwater pearls and apatite, and briolettes of sky blue topaz and rainbow moonstone.

A pair of my all-in-one chandelier earrings ~ an original Signature design that I use again and again in various guises. These ones differ vey slightly from previous pairs as I have left them open in the centres instead of enclosing briolettes within the wire-wapped frames. The gemstones used here are prasiolite and sky blue topaz as the main drops, with small briolettes of apatite and chrome diopside, and rondelles of iolite and a darker teal coloured apatite forming the clusters.

At last! I finally managed to get my hands on my new gemstones and make a few things. To start with, here's a nice casual pair of earrings in a simple linear design. These are made with polished ovals of kyanite in a lovely shade of apple green, and briolettes of soft aqua chalcedony.

I'm working on some fabulous new Summer designs right now ~ here are some of the gems that will be making an appearance! Cool aqua blues and fresh greens will feature strongly, along with lots of pearls, crystal quartz and moonstone. Chandelier earrings (large, exotic ones as well as my popular mini chandeliers), simple linear drops and lots of lovely clusters are on the way. Delicate necklaces, bracelets and anklets that you can wear in layers are coming too, and I'll also be making a few luxe tassel necklaces which I haven't done in a while. I've got Oregon sunstone, prehnite, pink Peruvian opal, chalcedony, moss aquamarine, rainbow moonstone, andalusite, green kyanite, aquamarine and amethyst on the way ~ all lovely Summery colours which I can't wait to get to work with. I've also had a few requests for anklets, now that we've had our first real taste of sunshine this year, so I'll post some previews of those here on my blog as and when I finish them :)

My latest pair of mini chandelier earrings. These are built around small leaf shaped frames which echo the shapes of the briolettes I've used ~ beautiful prasiolite puffed marquises and glowing aqua chalcedony flat navettes. Clustered around the drops are white freshwater pearls, chrysoprase and moonstone rondelles and tiny blue-green sapphire briolettes.

A few new things that I finished today! I realised that there isn't enough greenery in my shop at the moment, so I made the Muguet (lily of the valley) necklace and earrings ~ a combination of pale sage green prasiolite and sharp lime peridot, mixed with small white Keishi and seed pearls.

The Belladonna earrings are made with moss amethyst and African amethyst briolettes and a mix of black spinel and pink amethyst rondelles.

Like most of my work, this necklace is really quite petite and delicate ~ another piece that would look just as good layered with other necklaces as it would worn all alone. It features a polished briolette of Oregon sunstone, topped with a cluster of white pearls (Keishi and seed pearls) with rose quartz and tiny Padparadscha sapphire briolettes, and rhodochrosite rondelles. Linked into the front of the chain are some rainbow moonstones and more seed pearls.

A front fastening toggle necklace in a warm, slightly earthy colour palette. A clustered assortment of sparkling gemstones and little satiny pearls cascades down from the toggle, while the chain is dotted with more of the same stones. I love making these knotted silk bracelets! I've been working on several of these over the last few days and here's one of them made with a mix of colourful gems in shades of yellow and green, knotted on apple green silk and finished with a 14 carat gold-filled clasp. These can be made in just about any colour scheme imagineable and there will be a steady stream appearing on my website throughout the Spring and Summer!

I'm going to have to re-shoot these as the gold is looking a bit orangey in the photos, but I wanted to put them straight on my blog as I really like how they turned out. I used polished briolettes of Oregon sunstone and little drops of white topaz as the main stones. Clustered around these are tiny aquamarine briolettes and pink amethyst rondelles.
